Michael Ian Black is precisely the kind of culture fixture he would have discussed on I Love the 80’s if he came into prominence 30 years ago: the kind of guy whose name you can’t quite remember but instantly makes you nostalgic when you see him on screen. He’s had his hands in a lot of cookie jars over the years—first as a member of The State’s comedy collective, and later for his roles in Wet Hot American Summer and the TV series Ed, a road trip across America with Meghan McCain, and deadpan commercials for Sierra Mist. Even if Black is a little older and slightly less awkward now, expect a few summer camp references to sneak into his summer set. On Twitter, Black entreated fans to see him live by describing this tour as “overpriced, slightly disappointing comedy!!!” But that’s what you get from Black’s brand of humor—some thought-provoking, well-worded self-deprecation. Michael Ian Black performs with Matt Koff at 7 p.m. at 9:30 Club, 815 V St. NW. $25. (202) 2650930. 930.com.
