There’s still time to nominate local icons for Best of D.C.
Washed Out’s 2009 chillwave anthem “Feel It All Around” will transport IFC viewers to sepia-hued nirvana for as long as Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein keep it in the title sequence of Portlandia, but on his 2013 Paracosm, the artist known to his parents as Ernest Greene has more ambitious tonal priorities. The seasick ’80s-ish synths haven’t gone anywhere, of course, but they’re buttressed with fine-grain ambient noises and more than 50 vintage instruments. The first single, “It Feels All Right,” layers the relaxed, summery rhythms for which Washed Out is famous with softly strummed guitars, the odd string flourish, and collages of tropical sounds—an instant dose of good vibes, with some studio-wizard ear candy for the part of your brain that wants to stay awake. Washed Up performs with Wunder Wunder at 7 p.m. at 9:30 Club, 815 V St. NW. $25. (202) 265-0930. 930.com.
