Vacationer claim to be the “Eastern Seaboard’s foremost relaxation specialists” in press materials, but the Philly- and Brooklyn-based group’s breezy Caribbean beats are just as infectious on a club’s dance floor as they are poolside. Inspired by lead singer/bassist Kenny Vasoli’s love of Polynesian and Tropicália records, Vacationer’s music bounces between light-hearted guitar riffs, dreamy electronic beats, and cheerful ukuleles to achieve what Vasoli jokingly calls a “Nu-Hula” sound. Woven together by playful samples—birds chirping, fuzzy vinyl, electro-harp—and bubbly keys, the band’s 2012 album, Trip, showcased its love of all things island-related. Track titles like “Dreamlike,” “No Rules,” and “Summer End” encourage listeners to kick back and drift away in a wave of Pacific island grooves. The group’s latest release, the 2014 single “The Wild Life,” features a happy-go-lucky blend of Afro-percussion and effervescent guitars; listen long enough, and you just might find yourself lounging with the sand between your toes in a blissed-out daydream. Vacationer performs with Joywave at 8 p.m. at Rock & Roll Hotel, 1353 H St. NE. $12. (202) 388-7625. rockandrollhoteldc.com.
