Camera Obscura is content with its melancholy; in fact, that’s kind of the band’s thing. Since 1996, the Scottish indie-pop outfit has churned out enough wine-soaked melodies to fuel an entire generation’s lost loves and hipster heartbreaks. After a four-year break, the band returned in late 2013 with Desire Lines, a critically acclaimed album full of arresting pop laments, this time recorded in Portland, Ore. If you’re a fan of the old stuff, you’ll be happy to know Camera Obscura hasn’t changed drastically over the years—the album’s lead single, “Do It Again,” is an upbeat anthem led by Tracyanne Campbell’s trademark vocals and tempered by time. Steel guitars, snare beats, and dreamy guitar riffs also show their faces throughout this collection of songs. When it comes to aural nostalgia speckled with strings, horns, and quirky percussion instruments you can simultaneously dance and cry to, Camera Obscura continues to reign supreme. Camera Obscura performs with Laura Cantrell at 7:30 p.m. at 9:30 Club, 815 V St. NW. $20. (202) 265-0930. 930.com.
