Dance music is better when there are actual instruments involved; it’s true at weddings, and it’s true at nightclubs. DJs try their best to command an audience, but their efforts (and results) pale in comparison to those of percussionists, bass players, horn sections, and honest-to-God vocalists. The Brooklyn disco collective Hercules & Love Affair internalizes this: It’s a disco orchestra, and every show the band plays turns into a huge goddamn party. Songs like “True False/Fake Real” and “5:43 to Freedom” are bursting with hooks and grooves, to the point where it’s impossible not to move. Oct. 7 at U Street Music Hall. $25.
