One man holes up at Canada’s Banff Center for six weeks and composes, arranges, and writes the lyrics to an entire album, before collaborating with eight talented friends to record it. Ellis Ludwig-Leone creative escape produced San Fermin, a full-length that is now a band of the same name. An album in the most cohesive sense, San Fermin is a coming-of-age saga, complete with two young characters and themes of love, loss, and jadedness. Along the journey, Ludwig-Leone presents an intuitive ability to arrange intricate and monumental compositions with what sounds like a full orchestra. With sweeping strings, gentle percussion, and an omniscient piano, the scene is set. Our protagonist is out to create something: an honest life, a meaningful place, a feeling of fulfillment. Oct. 18 and 19 at Black Cat. $20.
