Mobile vending hit the Potomac River this summer when couple Ari Fingeroth and Tammar Berger launched Nauti Foods, D.C.’s first food boat. The floating snack vehicle, anchored near the Key Bridge, catered to passing kayakers, stand-up paddle boarders, and day boaters with ice cream sandwiches, granola bars, chips, and hot dogs grilled on board. Trendier offerings like bagels from Bullfrog Bagels, vegan cookies from Sticky Fingers, and push-pop gelato from Dolcezza were also available. Nauti Foods is hibernating for the winter but plans to return to the water next summer. And when it does, its founders won’t be surprised if other food boats—possibly outfitted with real kitchens—follow in their wake. “I think that would be the next jump,” Fingeroth says, “larger vessels that are doing custom cooked meals.”
