On “Summer Mood,” from Best Coast’s first album Crazy For You, frontwoman Bethany Cosentino reminds us that “there’s something about the summer.” A fitting motto for a band who, at the time, made fuzzy, often frantic music directly inspired by its overwhelming love for California and cats. Since then, Best Coast’s chipper, upbeat melodies have mixed with darker lyrics and a noirish L.A. vibe, while retaining Cosentino’s dry, removed vocal delivery that brought it early attention. In a strangely natural evolution of style, 2015’s California Nights, the band’s third record, added a psychedelic, “I’m so stoned I can’t move” element to the group’s sound. Best Coast plays the 9:30 Club with Wavves as part of the “Summer is Forever II” co-headlining tour, a revival of their joint tour and single of the same name from 2011. Wavves’ more aggressive power-punk, along with opening act Cherry Glazerr’s hazy garage rock, fits snuggly with Best Coast’s more expansive, ambitious sound. Best Coast performs with Wavves and Cherry Glazerr at 7 p.m. at 9:30 Club, 815 V St. NW. $30. (202) 265-0930. 930.com.
