That was fast. Chef Nick Sharpe is no longer at Birch & Barley and ChurchKey in Logan Circle. He started at the two-story beer emporium from Neighborhood Restaurant Group (NRG) in April, taking over for the restaurant’s long-time Executive Chef Kyle Bailey.
“It just wasn’t the right opportunity for me right now,” Sharpe says. “There is no bad blood.” He’s moving back to the West Coast to work for Michael Mina‘s restaurant group. Sharpe worked for Mina early in his career at RN74 in Seattle, RN74 in San Francisco, and Baltimore’s Wit & Wisdom and Pabu.
“It’s a good concept with a great team,” he says of Birch & Barley. “It’s just hard right now in D.C. with all the great new restaurants opening to know which direction to go in. I wish them luck.”
In a statement, NRG Founder Michael Babin offered, “Nick is talented and we appreciate his work during his stint at Birch & Barley and ChurchKey. We wish him the best in his next project.”
The restaurant currently has coverage in the kitchen as they re-start the interviewing process.
