Those who brunch for culinary purposes, not just to fill their stomachs up with good feelings after a night of hitting it hard, take note: Kyirisan launches brunch this weekend in Shaw, and the menu from Chef Tim Ma is small but mighty.
Epcot-like in nature, it tours through what the world eats when they roll out of bed. There’s a croque madame with honey ham, cheddar, and a fried egg; a deli-impersonating arctic char gravlax with capers, pickled red onions, and creme fraiche; a panko chicken sandwich on house brioche with cheddar and pickles; and blueberry pancakes with yuzu curd butter and maple syrup.
The restaurant will be offering special pricing for opening weekend. The mains mentioned above will be $10, while sides like potato hash or cinnamon rolls will be $4. One side is particularly noteworthy—the vanilla custard bao bun. It’s a twist on a dim sum staple, only sweeter.
Brunch drinks include standbys like the Bloody Mary, Michelada, and Mimosa while there are some originals too like “Good Morning Shaw!” with tequila, lime, grenadine, and Thai chili shrub, or “The Dude Abides” with vodka, concerto, and coconut milk.
Starting this weekend, brunch will be offered Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and reservations can be made online.
