There’s still time to nominate local icons for Best of D.C.
The K Street breakfast and lunch crowd will have a new option come Nov. 29 when eatsa opens (1627 K St. NW). The San Francisco import specializing in quinoa bowls looks like it’s from the future. Diners order on in-store iPads or through the eatsa phone app and then pick up their bowls from personalized cubbies.
Sample lunch menu items include a “Bento Bowl” with stir-fried quinoa, egg, edamame, crispy wonton strips, teriyaki sauce, miso portabello mushrooms, and apple-cabbage slaw, as well as a “Cantina Kale Salad” with jicama, crispy tortilla strips, roasted jalapeno ranch dressing, cilantro, lemon-herb toasted quinoa, green pico de gallo, avocado, green onion, cotija cheese, chipotle black beans, pickled onions, kale, and roasted red peppers.
Bowls that borrow inspiration from Latin America, Asia, the Middle East, and Italy start at $6.95. Breakfast will feature egg scrambles, fruit cups, chia parfaits, quinoa acting like oatmeal, coffee, and tea.
Co-founder Scott Drummond and CEO Tim Young say they’re trying to bust myths that fast food can’t be healthy and that healthy food has to be expensive.
eatsa will have competition from the start, as Protein Bar located at 17th and K Street NW also purveys both egg scrambles for breakfast and quinoa bowls for lunch. Bowls at Protein Bar start at $7.49.
eatsa will be open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.
