Kangaroo Boxing Club in Columbia Heightsis signing off in early January after more than four years of serving Costanza burgers and gut-busting Three Little Pigs sandwiches.

Owner Josh Saltzman shared the sad news today, but there’s a bright side.

“We are working quickly to redevelop the space and plan to launch a new community-focused bar and restaurant this summer,” he says. That project will come from bartender Carrie Dzwil and the staff of sister Shaw dive Ivy and Coney.

While in transition, Saltzman says his staff will work at their fresh concept, Midlands Beer Garden in Park View.

Loyal customers can look forward to a month of events leading up to Kangaroo Boxing Club’s closure including a “drink-the-bar-dry” New Years Eve party, plus an epic hangover brunch the next day with pulled pork, pastrami smashed potatoes, and Johnny cakes.

Fans of Michigan sports are probably the most troubled by this news, as the bar was home base for the school’s fans.
