When Joselito Casa de Comidas opens Jan. 9 on Capitol Hill (660 Pennsylvania Ave. SE), the restaurant will offer 20 percent off all food through Jan. 15. Restaurants often reduce costs during their “soft opening” in recognition that the servers and the kitchen staff are working out the kinks.

Co-owner Javier Candon, who is also behind SER Restaurant, named his 70-seat Spanish restaurant after both his father and a famous bullfighter. He’s tapped Madrid native David Sierra to run the kitchen, which will prepare a mix of class and creative Spanish cuisine. Sierra expects his menu to feature 10 cold and 10 hot dishes, and most will be available in three portion sizes: small (tapa), medium (media ración), and family size (ración). Some will be prepared at the table for added experience. See the complete menu below. 

For pairing, Candon (who once won a “best mixologist” title in Spain) has crafted cocktails inspired by life in early 20th century Spain. There will also be an extensive list of beer, wine, cava, sherry, vermouth, and Candon’s house-made digestifs (which you’ll need if you order the Ibérico secreto, a rich piece of pork served with potatoes and salad). 

If you miss the soft opening pricing, note that Joselito will offer a daily “Hemingway Hour” from 4-7 p.m., when everything on the menu is 20 percent off.

Visit Jan. 9 through Jan. 11 for dinner only from 5:30-10 p.m. Beginning Jan. 12, Joselito will be open daily for lunch and dinner from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and from 11:30 a.m. to midnight on Friday and Saturday.
