Zengo’s days are numbered in Chinatown. The Asian-Latin fusion restaurant from Restaurateur Richard Sandoval can’t make the lease work according to General Manager Frank Ortiz, who also plays a larger role in the company.
“It’s going to come to an end, we don’t know the exact date yet,” he says. “The lease, it’s literally something we can’t sustain, we’re on the last part of the negotiation, Friday we’ll know more.”
Zengo has been a popular dining spot before games and other events at Verizon Center given its proximity to the stadium. Standout dishes included the “Angry Zengo” roll, duck confit daikon tacos, pork carnitas rice noodles, and chipotle miso soup.
Ortiz says employees will be offered jobs within the company as Richard Sandoval has several other restaurants in D.C. including Toro Toro, El Centro, and Masa 14.
Zengo opened back in 2005.
