Mount Pleasant is getting a Moorish meets Spanish restaurant this spring from the team that brought Nido to D.C.’s Woodridge neighborhood. The menu at Mola! (which translates to “it rocks” in Spanish) will include small plates, paella, an array of seafood dishes, grilled meat, and more.
The Moors were known for bringing olives, rice, almonds, saffron, the art of curing things with vinegar, and wood-fired grills to Spain, so diners can expect to see those ingredients and techniques. The drink menu will include vermouth on draft, cocktails containing madeira and sherry, and Spanish wine.
The duo behind the restaurant, Karlos Leopold and Erin Lingle, say they’re trying to create a neighborhood gathering place for laid-back date nights or a quick glass of wine. Leopold lives nearby.
Mola! is scheduled to open in late spring for dinner. The brunch menu will follow in the summer. Find it at 3155 Mt. Pleasant St. NW.
