The cocktail menu at Quarter + Glory on 14th Street NW is full of tempting libations like a perfect Penicillin cocktail featuring single malt scotch and refreshing lemon, ginger, and honey. But before you can flip to the pages that display the bar’s $11-$14 cocktails, you must first climb over this quote:

“I don’t care how liberated this world becomes, a man will always be judged by the amount of alcohol he can consume, and a woman will be impressed whether she likes it or not.”

The bar attributes to the quote to “Doug Coghlin” but the name of the character from the the 1988 flick Cocktail is misspelled. Australian actor Bryan Brown played Doug Coughlin, who got to boss around Tom Cruise’s character in the movie that’s a bit of a cult classic among those in the bar industry and beyond.

But of all the quotes about booze to choose from, why pick this one?

It’s a bitter pill to swallow.
