After picking up a Tony Award last week for producing August Wilson’s Jitney, John Legend is an Emmy away from a full EGOT. This summer, he’s stopped acting and returns to the genre that first earned him acclaim, touring amphitheaters throughout the nation in support of his 2016 album Darkness and Light. A tour like this reminds listeners why Legend is so good in the first place. Despite focusing on producing TV shows and appearing on screen in Underground and La La Land, the man can still bang out a tune on the piano that makes you want to move and write lyrics that turn your insides to mush.
