Washington City Podcast is back, and over the next few weeks we’ll go deep with some of the people featured in the print edition of the People Issue.

Brother Ah (aka Robert Northern III), a local jazz musician, once played flute for a blue crane who was struggling to lay its egg at the National Zoo. He has played with jazz greats like Sun Ra, Thelonious Monk, and John Coltrane, hosts “The Jazz Collectors” for WPFW, and has plans to go on the road next spring. Hear him and City Paper arts editor Matt Cohen talk about what Brother Ah learned by listening to nature, D.C.’s jazz scene, and his long, storied career.
