As lawmakers work through the weekend in hopes of reopening the government, D.C. bars and restaurants are offering food and drink specials. Note that most specials require a federal government ID. Check back as more deals are added throughout the weekend.

At D.C.’s sushi burrito hotspot, federal workers with a valid ID can get a 15 percent discount on all in-shop purchases.

Capitol Lounge229 Pennsylvania Ave. SE

Cap Lounge’s creative cocktail menu is already a Twitter sensation. Throughout the duration of the shutdown, those with a federal government IDs can purchase $5 cocktails such as the “C’mon Chuck” with Woodchuck cider and Fireball or the “Durbin Soda” with Kentucky Dale’s bourbon, soda, and “snitch sauce.” 

Dino’s Grotto1914 9th St. NW

The Grotto Bar will perpetually offer happy hour specials until the shutdown ends for all customers. That means $8 signature drinks, $6 wine, $4 drafts, $5 antipasti dishes, and $10 charcuterie boards that serve two-four people. Owner Dean Gold adds some snark: “Offer not valid to members of congress, the president, cabinet, or senior staff.”

The 30 percent discount typically offered to first responders and teachers now applies to federal government employees with ID.

Roofers Union2446 18 St. NW

The bar team at Roofers Union have developed two signature drinks to mark the shutdown. The “Trumpty Dumpty Sat On a Wall” combines mezcal, agave, grapefruit bitters, Jerry Thomas bitters, and lemon ($6) and and the “Orange Toddler” mixes gin, carrot juice, Velvet Falernum, ginger, and lemon ($6). The $6 pricing doesn’t kick in until Monday evening and the special pricing is available to all guests.

The Bird1337 11th St. NW

Get wings and a beer for $8 during happy hour at The Bird so long as you show a federal government ID. They’re calling it the “Art of the Ordeal” special. 

Carmine’s425 7th St. NW

Visit the bar at Carmine’s where the happy hour menu will be offered all day as long as the government is closed. Customers mush show federal government IDs. There’s also a speciality drink called the “Hard Times Cocktail” with Campari, bourbon, orange juice, and thyme-infused simple syrup ($12). 

CAVAMultiple Locations

Customers with a federal government ID who dine-in at any D.C., Maryland, or Virginia CAVA can get 10 percent of their meal.

Wisdom1432 Pennsylvania Ave. SE

Happy hour runs all night at Wisdom if you have a federal government ID. Get $6 cocktails, a $1 off beer and wine, and $2 off infused in and tonics.

Bourbon2321 18 St. NW

This Adams Morgan bar specializing in brown booze will offer a different special each night during the shutdown starting Jan. 20 when classic cocktails including Manhattans, Old-Fashioneds, and Sazeracs are all $10. This deal is available to all.

Cork Wine Bar & Market1805 14th St. NW

Enjoy happy hour pricing on wine all day and all night at Cork Wine Bar until the government revs up again. Federal employees can take 10 percent off whatever they purchase in the first-floor market. 

Federalist Pig1654 Columbia Road NW

Federal government employees with ID can pair $3 Narragansett beers with all-American barbecue.

Logan Tavern1423 P St. NW

Throughout the shutdown this Logan Circle standby is offering all-day and all-night happy hour at the bar, plus $5 13 oz. beers.

Hawk ‘n’ Dove329 Pennsylvania Ave. SE

Show your federal government ID to take advantage of all-day happy hour at Hawk ‘n’ Dove.

Dacha Beer Garden1600 7th St. NW

Not quite a special, but during the shutdown, $1 of each “Dacha 4 DACA” cocktail sold will go towards the National Immigration Law Center.

Federal government employees can get a free sandwich at the bar Mondays-Fridays from 2-4 p.m. during the shutdown.
