José Andrés announced his plans to relocate America Eats Tavern from Tysons Corner to Georgetown back in November 2016. The restaurant specializing in Mid-Atlantic cuisine and iconic American dishes is now bound for the former Old Glory BBQ space at 3139 M Street NW.
Old Glory posted a sign on its door Sunday announcing that it would be closing after 26 years. But perhaps the smokers will remain because there will be barbecue on the America Eats Tavern menu. Andrés is even partnering with Bechara Nammour of Capital Restaurant Group, which was the entity behind Old Glory BBQ for so many years.
Perhaps Nammour is banking on a boost in business by teaming up with the District’s best known restaurateur, who is also the James Beard Foundation’s Humanitarian of the Year.
Andrés told City Paper back in 2016 that “Georgetown is such a beautiful, historic part of D.C. and will make an amazing new home for America Eats Tavern.”
The restaurant should open in early summer.
