On Rye already has a replacement. Spice-6 Modern Indian is due to take over 740 6th St. NW next month. There are already locations of the fast-casual Indian restaurant from Vik Singh specializing in naan pizza, rice bowls, and kabob platters in Hyattsville and Vienna.
The D.C. location will differentiate itself by offering a special dosa menu and savory South Indian donuts made from lentil flour.
Dosas, best described as over-sized rice and lentil crepes, will come in flavors such as the Rava Masala dosa with spiced potatoes and onions wrapped in a crepe made from semolina, sprinkled cumin seeds, ginger, and green chilis ($7.99) and the Mysore Masala dosa featuring a crepe spread with spicy chutney and spiced mashed potatoes ($7.99).
Get a full sense of the menu here. Spice-6 prides itself on cooking from scratch and like many fast-casual eateries, patrons have the opportunity to build custom meals.
There won’t be a full bar, but Kingfisher and other beers are available.
