Chefs Seng Luangrath and Bobby Pradachith have a name for their next Lao restaurant. Hanumanh will open at 1604 7th St. NW in Shaw, serving pounded salads full of herbs, steamed fish, and meat and vegetables grilled over charcoal. They’re hoping to capture the feel of riverside Lao night markets.

Details are sparse, but Hanumanh is the name of a divine monkey god in both Buddhism and Hinduism known for being courageous and devoted, amongst other things. The team says the name holds a lot of meaning for both chefs.

The mother-and-son pair already own Thip Khao in Columbia Heights and Padaek in Falls Church where they’ve largely carried the torch in introducing the D.C. area to Laotian cuisine.

No opening timeline is available, but when Hanumanh opens, its hours will be Wednesdays through Mondays from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m., with the kitchen closing nightly at 10 p.m.
