James Beard-nominated Chef Amy Brandwein has a small surprise for D.C. coming in Summer 2019. The chef and owner of Centrolina is expanding across the alley in CityCenterDC to open Piccolina in the petite space RareSweets vacated earlier this year. Piccolina translates to “little one” in Italian and will serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Most notably, Piccolina will have a wood-fired oven that will be used to bake bread and cook dishes like omelets, breakfast crepes, crostatas, and seasonal vegetables. Diners can also grab coffee, pastries, and a selection of retail and prepared items like eggplant lasagna.
Centrolina is currently split into a marketplace with a cafe and a full-service dining room. Opening Piccolina will free up space for additional private dining within Centrolina, but patrons will still be able to buy fresh products such as produce, pasta, sauces, and fish inside the original marketplace.
